Xbox LIVE is Going Down

Tue, Sep 23, 2008

News

You hear me? It’s goin’ down. We’re going to show that little so-and-so a thing or two. Oh, wait — Microsoft beat us to it, and will be taking Xbox LIVE down personally. For only 24 hours, mind you. In a quick warning email from MS, we’ve been asked to pass along the word that Xbox LIVE will be down for 24 hours, lasting the entire day and night of Monday, September 29th, 2008. The service will be down from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. PST, so if you’re having a tough time finding an evenly matched opponent for Fusion Frenzy 2, it’s not your fault.

The good news is, this downtime will be used to help prepare Xbox LIVE for the new Xbox Experience which we learned about back at E3. This is another awesome feature of the service, you see — not only will it completely transform your 360 through “the magic of software,” it will slowly help you transform your life through “the magic of staying offline and maybe going out to a movie with your real life friends for once, and you should call your mother more often too.” No word on when the Xbox Experience will actually debut, but rest assured, we’re hoarding all the gamerpics we can get our hands on.

Here’s the full text of the warning:

As we gear up to bring you the New Xbox Experience, Xbox LIVE and the Xbox LIVE page on Xbox.com will be down for 24 hours, beginning on September 29, 2008 from 12:01 AM PST until 11:59 PM PST. During this time you will not be able to access Xbox LIVE. For more information about the New Xbox Experience, please visit www.gamerscoreblog.com or www.majornelson.com.
