Those World of Warcraft people never cease to amaze me with their amazingly hardcore dedication to being utterly.... hardcore. Over the weekend, in fewer than three days from the Wrath of the Lich King Expansion's release, a conglomerate of the European guilds Nihilum and SK Gaming killed off every single raid boss in the pack.
Temporarily going by the name TwentyFifthNovember, the hybrid group released a statement to their site at once celebrating their victory and raising questions of concern over the ease with which they defeated the bosses:
The question in all our minds right now is if we could do this, how soon until the rest of the top guilds in the world clear all the raid content that WOTLK has to offer? Did Blizzard miscalculated [sic] in the tuning of these encounters? Or is this Blizzard folding under the weight of a large casual player base that demands to be on equal footing with end-game raiders?
That being said, record kills and record leveling require an extreme and particular sort of dedication that the "large casual player base" may lack. The WoTLK achievements reached in the past week have all required extended periods of continuous gameplay -- periods of time not usually available to the casual gamer due to the everyday concerns of employment or even health. And, yes, marathon gaming can have a pretty significant and immediate impact on your health, as we've just learned.
