WotLK Sells 2.8 Million in 24 Hours

News

I swear, this is the last time I will mention Wrath of the Lich King barring any super-sad-yet-sort-of-amusing stories in the coming weeks about addicted gamers. Earlier today, Blizzard sent out a press release revealing that Wrath of the Lich King sold 2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours of release. The last WoW expansion, The Burning Crusade, set a single day PC game sales record with 2.4 million. What’s that mean? If you failed at third grade math, that means that Wrath of the Lich King now holds the record for most sales of a PC game in the first 24 hours, and has thus had the greatest first 24 hours of anything not named Jack Bauer.

Not the Sims, not Spores, not even Nancy Drew – Wrath of the Lich King. To those 2.8 million players out there who stood in line, faced exhaustion, and called in sick to work and school the next day in order to start the Path to 80 at midnight, congratulations for being part of PC game history. Now, if you’re like Trevor’s friend and are still probably calling in sick to work and school to complete the Path to 80 (again), please do your friends and family a favor and take a break. Just promise me you won’t end up making me write about Wrath of the Lich King again.
