Torrentfreak has released their list of the Top 10 games pirated in 2008, and while the list of 10 itself contains almost no surprises, what is surprising is one man is responsible for the top two: Will Wright.
Obviously, we all knew Spore would top the list. The game had record-breaking downloads, thanks in no small part to the huge DRM debacle. 10 days after Spore was released, half a million people had already completed a download of it. And while chances are not every person who downloaded it would have paid, the fact is EA lost out on millions in revenue. Guess next time they’ll think twice about the DRM, huh?
Here’s the full list. It’s worth noting that all of the games (except C&C 3) were featured in some sort of media frenzy at one point or another. (In Pro Evo’s case, it’s just a worldwide phenomenon the US has chosen to ignore since it’s soccer and all.)
