Wednesday Burnout Paradise Blowout: Wheels, Wings and Cagney

News

All is not well in Paradise. The “Bogart” update that arrived on Xbox 360 five days early appears to actually have been two weeks too early, and while PS3 owners can experience the laundry list of fixes in a mere 14 hours, Criterion is recalling the 360 Bogart patch until May 2nd, by which time they promise to have fixed Bogey’s framerate issues. But after the tremendous Burnout Paradise announcements today, few gamers are likely to care one iota about a piddling two-week delay.

That’s right — This August with the Davis update, the rustling of dead leaves will be joined by the purring and roaring of powerful motorcycles making their way through the streets of Paradise; and there’s no need to worry about traffic, because you’ll be able to abuse those twin tires in the dead of night. Wheels are one thing, but we’re also hearing a little something about wings

One thing though — Criterion notes the motorcycles (and potentially all of Davis) will cost money. There’s been no official announcement on how much, but we’ll be eagerly awaiting that figure.

Meantime, in the realm of $0.00, there’s the Cagney update. If you’re not already excited, how would you feel if it included new cars? Criterion just revealed the Hunter Olympus, a SUV cross between a Honda Element and a Hummer H3, which will be “the first vehicle without boost in a Burnout game.”

Cagney will also feature a live update page, with a calendar of events, Paradise news and even a time/weather widget. Now they just need pizza delivery and a built-in exercise routine, and you’ll never need to leave your game session.

So when will Cagney’s tommy gun let rip with a barrage of updates? Well, there’s a bit of confusion there. Criterion’s Alex Ward says we’ll see it near the end of June — but the countdown above seems to point to a May 31st release.

If you’ve got a couple hours to kill, check out the first episode of Crash TV (where all these beautiful updates were revealed) right here.

Halfway through part two, Ward says “We want Criterion to be known as the most friendly development team in the world.” If they keep up this succession of DLC, and continue to support their community by bringing this unprecedented amount of honest-to-god content and fixes, that title is all but guaranteed.
