Next Generation noticed something very peculiar at Amazon.com: Despite its release date of October 7th, 2008, Warhammer Online has apparently racked up enough preorders as of today that it’s surpassed the formidable Super Smash Bros. Brawl to claim the top spot on the hourly-updated videogame bestseller charts.
Here’s how April’s most popular games stack up across all platforms. Asterixes denote a title that hasn’t yet released.
01. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Collector’s Edition*—EA (PC)
02. Super Smash Bros. Brawl—Nintendo (Wii)
03. Mario Kart w/ Wii Wheel*—Nintendo (Wii)
04. Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath—EA (PC)
05. Grand Theft Auto IV*—Rockstar (Xbox 360)
06. Wii Play w/ Remote—Nintendo (Wii)
07. Grand Theft Auto IV*—Rockstar (PS3)
08. Rock Band Special Edition—MTV (Xbox 360)
09. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII*—Square Enix (PSP)
10. Gran Turismo Prologue*—SCEA (PS3)
GTA IV might be hot stuff, but it’s not pulling the same preorder volume (at least at Amazon) as even Kane’s Wrath can boast. PSP finally has a title worth talking about in Crisis Core, and that game people buy to get an extra Wiimote (as well as some drumming title) continue sitting pretty at spots six and eight respectively.
