On this week’s Trailer Tuesday, we get some solid glimpses of Spore, The Conduit, and Dead Space. Any questions?
We’d known evolution sim Spore was going to be a game to watch from the moment we heard it was the brainchild of Will Wright, but even this very first stage looks like a lot of fun. It also looks suspiciously like thatgamecompany’s flOw, but that’s hardly a surprise considering flOw designer Jenova Chen used to work on the Spore team. In fact, perhaps it’d be proper to say flOw looks suspiciously like Spore…
I’ve been openly skeptical of The Conduit since its IGN reveal over a month ago, and this trailer does little to abate my fears. I’ll admit the tech and environments shown do look rather promising for a Wii title. There are also some fun looking weapons — it’s nice to see the Jedi Knight bowcaster reincarnated in particular — but the Mission: Impossible-meets-aliens story looks downright throwaway. But hey, if the core gameplay is fun…
Sadly, you won’t find any gameplay footage in this Dead Space trailer; but you will have the privilege of viewing gobs of tech that put what you just saw of The Conduit to shame. Creepy atmospheric environments look like a pleasure to explore, and if everything goes well we could have an excellent mix of Doom 3 and Resident Evil 4 on our hands.

I’ve been looking forward to Spore for quite some time now. I liked SimLife, but hated the execution. Hopefully Spore will be more engaging.
Unfortunately, it means I’ll probably have to upgrade my computer. Sigh.
