On this week’s Trailer Tuesday, we get some solid glimpses of Spore, The Conduit, and Dead Space. Any questions?
We’d known evolution sim Spore was going to be a game to watch from the moment we heard it was the brainchild of Will Wright, but even this very first stage looks like a lot of fun. It also looks suspiciously like thatgamecompany’s flOw, but that’s hardly a surprise considering flOw designer Jenova Chen used to work on the Spore team. I’ve been openly skeptical of The Conduit since its IGN reveal over a month ago, and this trailer does little to abate my fears. I’ll admit the tech and environments shown do look rather promising for a Wii title. There are also some fun looking weapons — it’s nice to see the Jedi Knight bowcaster reincarnated in particular — but the Mission: Impossible-meets-aliens story looks downright throwaway. But hey, if the core gameplay is fun…
Sadly, you won’t find any gameplay footage in this Dead Space trailer; but you will have the privilege of viewing gobs of tech that put what you just saw of The Conduit to shame. Creepy atmospheric environments look like a pleasure to explore, and if everything goes well we could have an excellent mix of Doom 3 and Resident Evil 4 on our hands.

I’ve been looking forward to Spore for quite some time now. I liked SimLife, but hated the execution. Hopefully Spore will be more engaging.
Unfortunately, it means I’ll probably have to upgrade my computer. Sigh.
