Sonic isn’t the only one severing his leash this year; Today, LucasArts finally has the release date for their highly-anticipated physics playground The Force Unleashed. Gamers inhabiting the United States can begin prepping their sleeping bags for a September 16th launch, with other continents receiving the game only a few days later.

If you simply can’t wait the five months and must have more Force Unleashed stormtrooper make-out sessions right now, then LucasArts would like you to tune into Spike TV starting this Sunday, April 6th — they’ll be showing off new gameplay footage and making special game announcements in-between television premieres of the less notable, Hayden Christensen-laden Star Wars films.

Details below.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - April 3, 2008 — LucasArts today announced that its highly anticipated videogame Star Wars®: The Force Unleashed™ will be released on September 16, 2008 in the United States, September 17 in Southeast Asia and Australia, and September 19 in Europe.

An entirely new chapter in the Star Wars Saga, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice” and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The game’s expansive story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
