Yes, I know, ronin refers to a masterless samurai, but I don’t know a fancy word for rogue ninja. Team Ninja of Tecmo, specifically, which is rumored to be undergoing a larger exodus following the departure of their outspoken leader, Tomonobu Itagaki. According to 1UP (spotted via Next-Gen), upwards of three dozen Team Ninja employees may be leaving the company, sowing chaos and lawsuits in their wake.
Itagaki, upon his declaration of departure, alleged that Tecmo had committed a number of egregious acts, including disparaging remarks from Tecmo executives and unpaid bonuses for completed games. Tecmo responded by claiming Itagaki’s statements were “distortions,” but the new rumor is suggesting that the departing employees are filing a class-action suit for, again, “unpaid bonuses.” Granted, most all of this is just rumor at this point, but one side is now seeing a little more weight, allegation-wise.
More to come, surely, on Tecmo’s fate and stock price.
