With reports of Grand Theft Auto IV’s freezes continuing to flow in, GameSpot checked out the latest solution from the Take-Two support site. Take-Two is suggesting that PS3 players take twelve steps, all of which boil down to jiggling the cord, blowing in the cartridge, rebooting, and other general “well, see if this works” tips.
Hopefully, Take-Two and Rockstar will get to the bottom of this problem quickly, but in the meantime, we’ve paraphrased their suggested 12 steps:
1. Uninstall the game. Don’t worry, you get to re-install it later, which will be fun.
2. Delete your saves. We’re assuming if the game’s been crashing, you haven’t gotten far anyway.
3. Turn off the internet. Nothing good can come of being on the internet.
4, 5, & 7. Turn off everything your PS3 can do that you weren’t using. Have you ever once checked your information board? You don’t even have to do this for the sake of GTA4, this is just something you should do anyway.
6. Flush your internet cache. You’re used to this anyway for when other people might be looking at your history.
8. Turn the PS3 off and then turn it on. This frightens away the angry freeze gremlins dwelling in your power switch.
9. Reinstall the game. Oh boy — sandwich time!
10-12. Run your awesome next-gen game with no features enabled whatsoever.
If that doesn’t work, wait a week and ask again. Easy!
