‘Family Glide Hockey’ Review (WiiWare)

Available on the Wii Shop Channel this week is "Family Glide Hockey," the second in Aksys Games' series of "Family" games for WiiWare. Can the same engine and characters from the moderately well-received "Family Table Tennis" transform yet another rec-room favorite, the air hockey table, into a game worth five dollars? Meh.

NPD: ‘Wii Play’ Still The Winner, ‘Madden’ No. 2 Game of 2008

When glancing through NPD data last Thursday, we made what we thought was an interesting, simple observation: "Wii Play" outsold "Grand Theft Auto IV" in 2008. As it turns out, things weren't quite that simple. When you're only looking at the top ten titles of 2008, with the Xbox 360 version of a title appearing in [...]

December ‘08 NPD Numbers: DS Has Best Month Ever, Nintendo Gloats

Yesterday, the NPD told us the video game industry isn't as recession-proof as we'd like to think -- but today, the NPD numbers show that at least one company is still raking in the cash in North America. 2.15 million Wii consoles. 3.04 million DS handhelds. 1.46 million bundled Wiimotes, 999,000 Balance Boards, and 979,000 Wii [...]

NPD: ‘Wii Play’ — Not ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ — is Bestselling Title of 2008

Slow and steady wins the race, but it also helps if Santa is on your side. Though projections have long placed "Grand Theft Auto IV" as the game to beat -- between PS3 and Xbox 360, it sold approximately 5.18 million copies in the United States this year -- it seems that Nintendo's "Wii Play" [...]

October ‘08 NPD Numbers: What Recession?

Though more than one CEO has cited an October retail slowdown in recent investor conference calls, such a slowdown happily does not seem to have afflicted the U.S. video game industry sales as a whole. Today, the NPD reports that game industry sales actually increased 18% year-over-year to $1.31 billion. The biggest winner, as usual, was [...]

April NPD Numbers: Grand Theft Chart, Mario Kart, PS2 Departs

The April NPD numbers are here, and once again the gaming industry performs as if recession meant every American had $600 burning a hole in their pocket and only games to spend it on. With multiple Guinness World Records in its honor, even with only five days worth of sales there was no question whatsoever [...]

Following last week's story regarding the Wii joining the WestinWORKOUT program, Westin Hotels has given us a full list of the games to be included on the Westin-specific consoles, thus defining that nebulous "other" from the original story.

‘Stingy’ Wii Owners Purchase Few Titles, Says NY Times

From a simple glance at the monthly NPD numbers, Nintendo's Wii would seem to be kicking some serious butt -- but the New York Times begs to differ. While the Wii's cultural phenomenon may have moved hardware off store shelves and into consumers' living rooms, the same cannot be said for the Wii's growing [...]
