You heard the man: it's time to play ball. Today, the "Team Fortress 2" Scout Update -- complete with baseball bat, energy drink, double-barreled boomstick, twenty-five achievements and three new community maps -- is ready to download on Steam. And in honor of The Scout Update, Valve has decided to host a little sale. Until Friday, [...]

Valve Corporation announced today that the next update for popular online shooter "Team Fortress 2," including new weapons and achievements for the Scout class, will be available on Steam this Feb. 24. New details will be revealed about each weekday at teamfortress.com. Since TF2's inception, The Scout has carried a mean aluminum fish club; today, Valve [...]

It’s not quite 2009 yet, but Valve is back to updating TF2. (Woo!) In the first post on the TF2 blog since mid-October, Valve’s Robin Walker spills the beans on some new features for the Engineer and Spy, as well as some fixes to the game. Even though it was posted yesterday and claims the [...]

Dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit! In a disheartening conversation with Shacknews, Valve's Doug Lombardi has announced that our favorite team-oriented FPS won't be seeing any more major updates until 2009. Team Fortress 2 won't get any new weapons, no class upgrades or new achievements, no gameplay modes, nada. Seems the majority of the TF2 team have [...]

Game achievements have come to affect our favorite pastime on many levels. Achievements are being added to a growing list of game genres, and their rise is leading to raging debates on both industry and enthusiast fronts: What in-game objectives ought to merit achievements? How can games best be designed with achievements in mind? What further rewards can be tied to achievements to enhance their effective use in games? How much worth do game achievements truly have? In order to better approach these and other questions, GameCyte consulted a professor of psychology and a game designer, whose research into defining player types and motivations in modern gaming may help us all understand why achievements have become such a massive phenomenon.

It's not that we don't appreciate your readership, but what the hell are you doing here?! Don't you know that you could be playing Team Fortress 2, for free, right now? Valve is allowing everyone to download and play TF2 for the entire weekend, to let folks drop in and sample the all-new Heavy Update. [...]

Honestly, when Valve announced yesterday that the all-new gameplay mode for Team Fortress 2 was nothing more than a team deathmatch mode, I was a little disappointed. Especially given that the new mode is one-death-and-you're-out, which is really kind of a detriment to those of us who aren't that great at staying alive for more [...]
