Next-Gen is reporting some very optimistic comments from Kaz Hirai, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, who spoke about the past and future of the PlayStation 3 at Sony’s PlayStation Day. Kaz didn’t beat around the bush, admitting candidly that the PS3 had an “underwhelming” first year, but promising bigger and brighter futures for the console.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Sony is currently in licensing talks with TV and film studios to launch a digital-distribution platform for online video — straight from the internet to your PlayStation 3. Anonymous studio executives say it could arrive “as early as this summer.”
