EA announced today that Will Wright’s Spore has sold one million copies worldwide, across PC and Nintendo DS, since its September 7th release. According to NPD data posted at GamesIndustry.biz, the PC version of has also been crowned king of the hill in US software sales, sitting atop a stack of other EA titles and a few games whose names include the word “Warcraft.”

Likely noting how they had to include the DS version to arrive at a figure of one million, and how the span of 17 days since release isn’t a particularly significant number, EA is now positing Spore as a game likely to achieve evergreen sales. This line from Frank Gibeau, president of the EA Games label, was included in the press release:

We’re off to a great start moving into the holiday season and believe Spore will deliver a platform of creativity for gamers of all stripes for years to come.

It’s not a far-fetched ideaon that same NPD chart, The Sims 2 Double Deluxe sits at #6:

  • 1. Spore
  • 2. Spore Galactic Edition
  • 3. The Sims 2 Apartment Life
  • 4. Spore Creature Creator
  • 5. World Of Warcraft: Battle Chest
  • 6. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
  • 7. World Of Warcraft
  • 8. World Of Warcraft: Burning Crusade
  • 9. Warcraft III Battle Chest
  • 10. Crysis
