Special Edition MGS4 Bundle Gimped

News

Good news: that Japan-only Metal Gear Solid 4: Limited Edition bundle we teased back in March? It’s coming to the US. Bad news: The PS3 under that spiffy steel paintjob is the barebones 40GB version with no backwards compatibility, no flash card readers, and only two USB ports — for $100 more. What do you think of that?

If you’re not completely disgusted like I am, here’s the goods:

  • The bundle will be available exclusively at Konami.com for $599.99 (plus shipping)
  • It includes the Limited Edition version of MGS4 (the only way to get it outside of GameStop)
  • One DualShock 3 is included
  • Preorders begin May 19th
  • The official PlayStation Blog will keep tabs on its availability

So now it’s decision time. Are you so concerned with appearances that you drop an extra $85 for a classy paint job, even though it means you lose half your storage, your ability to play PS2 titles and thereby your ability to consolidate your console collection?

MGS4 40GB Bundle

Do you actually save some money by buying a decent PS3 that basically throws in the game and a DualShock 3 upgrade for the same price as the original 80GB?MGS4 80GB Bundle

Or do you man up, stick it to Sony and buy a used, badass Emotion Engine-powered 60GB PS3 from that shifty-looking guy on Craigslist?

The choice is yours.
