SEGA’s mobile division recently released its slate of games for 2008, and it features many popular titles that have not yet been seen in the mobile market. Of course, it’s difficult to tell if anybody has seen these games on account of the wee screens.
As one would expect from any notable SEGA release, the blue hedgehog makes a dashing appearance or two:
Games featured include Sonic at the Olympic Games, SEGA Columns Deluxe, Beijing 2008 — The Official Mobile Phone Game of the Olympic Games, Samba de Amigo, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Crazy Taxi and more.
SEGA is understandably optimistic about fielding such a casual-friendly lineup of games, especially with the “casual” market being en vogue these days:
“This year’s mobile game line-up is the strongest it’s ever been for the North American market,” said Linda Chaplin, Vice President, SEGA Mobile. “We are delivering some of the best brands in gaming, each designed from the ground-up specifically for play on the mobile platform. With the casual gamer in mind, our games are short and ’snackable’ with one-thumb controls that make it easy to play SEGA Mobile games from anywhere.”
While those games are targeted toward the casual market, and, don’t get me wrong, the thought of playing Crazy Taxi while in a crazy taxi holds a lot of appeal for me, hardcore gamers were not neglected:
Medieval: Total War is based on one of the most successful strategy franchises of all time. Players are challenged to control medieval European armies and employ tactics and wisdom on their quest to conquer their opponents. With support for both campaign and battle maps, players must manage resources, diplomacy and population happiness. The turn-based battle system offers layered levels of complexity for a range of players. Medieval: Total War launches in September 2008.
It’s going to be difficult explaining to the little old lady on BART why I’m cursing about the onslaught of soldiers, but I’ll find a way to cope. I’ll probably just pretend I’m drinking cheap booze out of a paper bag. Everybody seems to ignore that guy on BART pretty well.
