After reaching out to a second defendant this morning in Activision's RIAA-style 'Call of Duty 3' lawsuits, GameCyte has learned that he too paid "much less" than the hefty settlement fee listed in court documents. For fear of retaliation, the defendant would neither speak at length about the case nor detail the nature of the alleged crime. He left GameCyte with only this statement:
I wasn't doing anything more than an average college student does with torrents or MP3s, so it's surprising companies like this are wasting time on people with little money.
An admission of crime, but not of guilt. A settlement fee inflated for the official court documents. Defendants scared to admit exactly what they did even when anonymous. What exactly is going on here?

Tough. This kid says he didn't have much money, but since when does that entitle him to take stuff anyway? This is no different to some punk who stole cars saying "everyone I know steals cars, and besides I'm broke".
Tough shit.
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. I hope the fine ruined him.
I pay for my games, and I don't do it to subsidise thieving jerks like him.

Stealing cars and copying games is quite different.
When you steal a car, it's GONE. When you copy a game, nothing is gone.
That's why parasites like EA and so see it as a gold mine, because you can multiply a product with negligible costs (which is obviously not true in case of a car), but they want to limit your rights as much as possible (look at Spore - three installs, wtf?) Imagine when your car dealer would tell you - okay, three trips, but then no more driving, okay?
Laughable. Even when you "buy" a game, it's only licensed to you, so you can't even properly resell it nor rent it. So you can't even buy it, because you don't get the full proprietor rights with the purchase. But when you copy it - it's a theft!
Nice propaganda, but fat chance! People will copy digital content always, and the official bully propaganda won't stop it.

Shawn Guse, one of the thieves caught by Activision, is trying to get the fact that he stole games removed from the internet. More here: http://www.bruceongames.com/2008/09/25/shawn-guse-software-thief/

When you copy a game you are using something without paying for it, okay that's not like stealing a car ... it's more like riding the train without paying the fare.
"Hey, the train's there anyway, I'm not stealing anything" says the pirate; but they are incrementally from all the people who are paying for their fares.
I'm sick of paying for all these free-tards who don't pay for their games, and their pathetic excuses for their actions. "It's not fair, it costs money" ... boo hoo. What are you? Communists?

Don't kid yourself. Stealing is stealing. Someone worked hard to create the titles. They should get paid for thier services. You are not stealing a car, but stealing services and taking food out of peoples mouths. We are a country of thieves, nothing less. If you cannot afford the price, don't try to justify it. This is widescale denial.

I buy all my games, but when I encounter such stupid crap as limited activations and pain in the ass root kits and DRM, I go get the crack so I don't have to deal with that $hit.
As a result, I have the original paid for, AND I don't have to deal with with the BS.

Necros obviously copied the answers from all his tests in highschool. After all, it's not theft. Just because someone else did the work, doesn't mean he has to.
He obviously never pays whenever he receives any services. After all, it's not theft. Getting a ride in a cab somewhere doesn't leave you with anything.
He has never paid for rent/lease on his apartment/condo. After all, he's not stealing anything. He didn't receive ownership, so therefore it is worthless.
What a moron...

Necros said "(look at Spore - three installs, wtf?)"
You want to install it more than three times at once? WTF dude?
I pay for my games and I'm more than happy with a lock-down that restricts me to only one active installation at any one time. Why? The reason why is because I can't play it on multiple computers at once, so why would I need to install it more than once?
EA have already declared that they're going to publish a tool that allows us to revoke installation counts for Spore, and furthermore all it takes is the submission of a support ticket and they'll reset the install counter for you. What more do you want? Oh yeah. You want a free meal.

Hello Guru, what tempt you to post an article. This article was exceedingly fascinating, especially since I was searching for thoughts on this subject last Thursday.
