Indie game developer Farbs obviously asked himself what happened if one spends a gaming lifetime never properly blowing the dust out of their NES cartridges. The answer? ROM CHECK FAIL, an insane mashup of classic 8-bit games in the vein of WarioWare. Here’s what it’s like:
Mario starts stomping Asteroids while Alexy Pajitnov’s famous Tetris tune plays in the background. In the five seconds you spend dragging your jaw up off the floor, the paradigm shifts — and now Pac-Man’s chomping on Space Invaders, assuming you find that Power Pill in the five seconds before…
…but it’s too late, and now you find yourself hauling a$$ in the Spy Hunter G-6155 Interceptor while Goombas chase you around a familiar backdrop of Mt. Fuji… rinse, repeat and challenge yourself to wipe that smile off your face by the time you encounter your third Game Over.
Though we’d like even a little more variety (Ikari Warriors, anyone?) ROM CHECK FAIL is mad fun, and at this price (free) a must-play for nostalgic gamers. Get your copy at Indiegames.com. Thanks to Kotaku for the awesome find.
