In a stunning announcement months after the release of Kane and Lynch, the UK’s ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) has called a stop to one of the game’s ad campaigns.
What with all the bad press Kane and Lynch received for its advertising, I suppose it was inevitable that some government somewhere would eventually interfere with Eidos’ advertising efforts:
The game, which garnered unimpressive reviews, launched on November 13th of last year - which makes the ASA’s order that no K&L ads be reprinted or rebroadcast a bit pointless.
The original article at the Guardian goes into more details about the advertisement in question:
Eidos’s press ad promoting the game - about two violent mercenaries - showed a woman with a gagged and tear-stained face having her head held back by one of the men, who stood behind her pulling her hair and wearing surgical gloves. A second man, who held a rifle with his finger on the trigger, stood behind him.
It’s comforting to know that the helpful censors in the motherland are on the lookout for advertisements for games that have already faded into obscurity. Way to provide Kane and Lynch with a quick publicity burst, ASA!
