Their decision to drop Brutal Legend notwithstanding, we love Activision Blizzard here at GameCyte. We love Guitar Hero. We love Diablo. But most of all, we love Activision Blizzard because they consistently fail to ensure that the ESRB doesn’t leak their information. Today, as you can see immediately above, the ESRB has rated Ghostbusters for Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows PC. There’s a separate rating for the DS version.
Given that the title was announced a long while back, this normally wouldn’t be worth a second glance — unless of course you were a parent checking to see if your kid should play the game. But Ghostbusters is a game whose fate, last we heard, had yet to be decided.
The facts:
Though Ghostbusters was last looking for a new arrangement of some sort, it was not cancelled.
Since July 10th, Vivendi Games has been Activision Blizzard.
The publisher the ESRB lists for Ghostbusters is Vivendi Games, not Activision Blizzard.
Since the Activsion Blizzard merger, the ESRB has listed three games under the publisher name “Activision-Blizzard.”
Unless a publisher specifically requests, the ESRB can reveal a game 30 days after they have rated it. 30 days ago, the date was August 12th.
Our opinion:
Though we don’t think the mention of Vivendi Games has any meaning — after all,Crash: Mind over Mutant also appeared on the ESRB charts after July 10th, under the Vivendi Games label — the fact that the ESRB likely rated this game a full month after the merger is very good news for those hoping for the game to be released sometime this year, rather than 2009.
When reached for comment, an Activision Blizzard representative could not provide any details as to the game’s fate.
