Buy a shiny new Xbox 360 this Black Friday? Hoping to hook it up to a older display using an HDMI cable? Well, don’t be surprised if when you turn it on, all you hear is the system’s noisy fan. Last month, the gadget community got word (via AVForums) that those running monitors like the popular BenQ G2400W would get no audio after installing the New Xbox Experience.
However, Shacknews is now reporting that Microsoft is aware of the situation, and a fix is on the way.
Says Microsoft:
While the vast majority of our users worldwide are enjoying the New Xbox Experience with no problems, we are aware that a handful of Xbox LIVE users are experiencing audio issues, and are diligently monitoring this issue and working towards a solution. We appreciate our members’ enthusiasm and patience, and apologize for any inconveniences.
While none know for certain the root cause of the problem, symptoms currently seem to point to an issue with the HDCP handshake used for DRM purposes in high-definition movie players and consoles like the Xbox 360. Workarounds currently include using standard analog audio cables; switching between DVI/VGA and HDMI display modes after a five minute warmup period; and a complicated solution that involves physically removing the Xbox 360 hard drive before starting the game, and installing it only after the NXE dashboard loads.
Any GameCyte readers having problems with their NXE?

You ganked that image from Joystiq, Sean.
That being said, I haven’t had the issue with my NXE-loaded 360 hooked up to my Sharp Aquos via HDMI, but there have been several complaints about it on forums I frequent. Here’s hoping Microsoft pumps out an updated that fixes that issue ASAP.

Didn’t actually. Was an original idea of mine, I thought, and I hand-cropped and resized from the album cover art. Did they seriously crop exactly the same?
