Nintendo Makes it Possible to Lose, Gain Weight

News

Today, the Nintendo World Store is the site of the North American launch of Wii Fit, Nintendo’s new game dedicated to tracking your BMI as you flail around on a wedge of white plastic. Wii Fit will be reaching the rest of us later in the week, on May 21st, but for now, if you want to feel the burn with Wii Fit, you’ll need to visit the Nintendo World Store in New York. Or, you could visit the same store tomorrow and watch two guys going for the watermelon-eating world record. Nintendo, you see, is also going to be the home of Major League Eating: The Game, which is slated for a WiiWare release in 2008.

Contrast is a fun and hilarious thing. Much like the fact that May is both National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, and National Hamburger Month, now you can celebrate both the acquisition and expenditure of calories under one roof! Which do you think will resonate more with Wii owners?

If you’d prefer to improve your overall health and balance, Wii Fit is holding a demo event today in Central Park, where the media will tape you looking silly but you’ll generate $5 for the American Heart Association.

If you’d prefer to simulate speed eating, the MLE: The Game website is giving away gift certificates for burgers. Seriously.

What an age we live in!
