The aptly named Oddworld Inhabitants, developers of the Oddworld series among other things, has confirmed that the company is working on a new game in the Oddworld universe. Much speculation arose after Jeff Braun, Maxis co-founder, let it slip in a speech that he was working with Oddworld Inhabitants. The president of the company, Lorne Lanning, was circumspect in discussing the new title, while Braun was more talkative:
“I can confirm that we’re working with Jeff on Oddworld stuff, but that’s all I can say at this time,” offered Lanning.Braun stated that the new title would use development tools able to create content on a par with movie animation, with assets suited for both film and games.
“The rendering tools are getting so good now for 3D animation that you can literally create a linear animation and create a video game using the exact same objects,” he said.
The Oddworld games, for all their, well, oddness, captured the hearts of many gamers, and I know I’m hopeful that the game will deliver the off-beat humor we’ve come to expect from the series.
