Only four short months after the gorgeous 2D action-adventure Odin Sphere captivated critics and gamers alike, developer Vanillaware announced its spiritual successor: a Wii-exclusive named Oboro Muramasa Youtouden, set in feudal Japan. Since, the welcome news has arrived that the game will indeed find U.S. release — but two Tokyo Game Shows have come and gone without much of a hint as to when gamers might get their hands on some sleek katana.
Now, the game’s European publisher, Rising Star Games (via Siliconera) may have provided us with the answer: November 2009.
Does this European date mean anything for the U.S. release? When asked by GameCyte this morning, an PR representative for publisher XSEED Games didn’t seem to think so.
“There isn’t a set schedule [for Muramasa],” the PR rep told us. “It’s whenever they’re ready. They really want to make the game perfect, so the schedule has been pushed back a number of times.”
In that case, is Rising Star Games possibly being premature in posting November 2009? “Maybe they got more info from the dev team,” our contact explained. “We’re saying Q2 2009, but that’s really tentative.”
If the game makes a Q2 2009 release, the U.S. will obviously have it sooner than November.
Odin Sphere, Vanillaware’s first hit, didn’t reach Europe until March of this year, nine months after the game hit the United States.
