Mario Kart Powerslides Onto Wii April 27th

Almost one-and-a-half years after its impressive debut, Nintendo’s wand-waggling wunderkind the Wii continues to remain sold out – and in dread of the inevitable daily question, employees at GameStop and leading consumer electronics retailers now have explanations for the shortage practically burned into their neurons. Enter Mario Kart Wii. Why hasn’t supply caught up to demand? Simply because Nintendo continues to pump out triple-A game titles like there’s no tomorrow.

A scant three days after the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl brought the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection to its knees, the Big N tells us where we’re going to be spending our next $50 – Mario Kart Wii. Slated for an April 27th release in North America, the game will feature a total of 32 courses, with equal numbers of brand-new tracks and returning fan favorites; 10 battle arenas; and, aforementioned bandwidth allowing, simultaneous shell-tossing action for up to 12 players over Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection.

While the game comes packaged with yet another piece of physical bloatware in the shape of the “Wii Wheel, control freaks will be happy to learn they can eschew the extra plastic in favor of a standard Wiimote, Nunchuk combo, Classic Controller or my personal favorite, the good ol’ GameCube pad.

As long as it doesn’t ship on another barely readable servo-stressing dual-layer disk, I’m sold.
