As awesome music-driven games by Tetsuya Mizuguchi go, Lumines is pretty awesome and music-driven. Now, thanks to Steam, purveyors of a couple of other decent games you might want to look into, you can enjoy the colorful, rhythm-laden puzzler on your PC. For ten bucks (or nine bucks until the end of the week), you can match some colors and lose track of time, which should really give you what you obviously weren’t getting from Audiosurf, Peggle, Puzzle Quest et al.
Lumines on Steam mirrors its release on Xbox Live Arcade, selling as a base package with a bundle of extras sold separately, which include new mission and puzzle-based stages, and new stages for the standard challenge mode. Whether the Rockin’ Holiday Pack will see release through Steam is unknown, but we can dream. In the meantime, enjoy the hypnotic trance that Lumines produces, and hope that there is no hidden message in the flashing colors to kill the Malaysian Prime Minister.
