Next-Gen is reporting some very optimistic comments from Kaz Hirai, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, who spoke about the past and future of the PlayStation 3 at Sony’s PlayStation Day. Kaz didn’t beat around the bush, admitting candidly that the PS3 had an “underwhelming” first year, but promising bigger and brighter futures for the console.
“We are very confident PS3 will have at least a 10-year lifespan, and that the power under its casing and the potential for improvement in all areas is simply astonishing,” said Kaz, citing strengthening relationships with third-party developers and publishers, and bringing in a “whole new consumer base” beyond core gamers.
With Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, and Home on the way, and the recent victory of Blu-Ray over HD-DVD, it’s certainly looking like a good year for Sony, if not a good nine years. We just wonder when Kaz will bring out the really big guns.
