Benjamin “Ben Heck” Heckendorn is one of those guys I hate to hate. I mean, he’s a nice guy, but he’s just so damn brilliant at what he does that I can’t help but feel stupid in comparison. “lol I write about games and sports and stuff for a living!” “Oh yeah? Well I redesign consoles and create versions of them which were never meant to be in my spare time.” “Damn you, Ben Heck!”
His latest foray is actually a sequel to his biggest line of projects: the Xbox 360 Laptop. For this latest release, however, Ben has decided to change the name to Xbox 360 Portable. Whatever you want, Benny ol’ boy. So what makes it different from the previous versions, and what does it look like? Hit the full post to find out.
According to Ben, this is what makes the new version so different (and improved):
* Removable standard Xbox 360 hard drive for easy profile/data swapping
* Both memory card slots accessible, same reason.
* No keyboard! Really, they have those chat pads, what’s the point? (Besides looking cool)
* Simplified layout of ports and buttons.
* Internal wi-fi module, no external antenna. Antenna is strung out inside unit like other consoles/laptops
* Beveled edges! Countersunk screws!
I don't know about you, but as it is with all of his projects, my immediate and longest-lasting response (other than my continued onesided feuding) is: do want! You can check out all the usual pictures and the eventual making-of over at Ben's site here. Below, enjoy a sneak peak at what you'll find.
