In 1998, Eidos saw the value in adding a potent Japanese product to their lineup -- and ported Squaresoft's "Final Fantasy VII" to the Windows PC. Today, in their search for Western products, Square Enix is thinking a little broader. In order to get access to franchises including "Tomb Raider," "Hitman," "Deus Ex" and "Thief," they will bid £84.3 million for Eidos' entire operation.

The acquisition hunger that afflicts game publishers has apparently extended to ye olde Europe. Infogrames recently acknowledged that the company made a buyout bid for SCi.
