On Christmas day, Japanese publisher AQ Interactive announced that they were canceling the upcoming Xbox 360 action RPG, Cry On. The game, developed by Mistwalker and Cavia, would have been Mistwalker’s third Xbox 360 exclusive title, after 2007’s Blue Dragon and 2008’s Lost Odyssey.
"AQI decided to cancel the project after analyzing the current market environment and forecasts for the future,” said an AQI spokesman when contacted by 1UP for comment. “We deeply apologize for troubling those who were awaiting its release."
While little was (and is) known about the title, what we did know was that the game included a soundtrack composed by the legend himself, Nobuo Uematsu, and character designs by Kimihiko Fujisaka (Dragengard).
Hopefully, this isn’t a sign of things to come for Mistwalker. While Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon got rather mixed reviews from critics due to the sudden disliking of everything that made JRPGs popular the last two generations, they were fun games that genre fans really enjoyed. It would be a shame if Sakaguchi loses funding from Microsoft because of so-so reviews and the lackluster sales of Lost Odyssey. Guess we’ll have to wait until Blue Dragon 2 launches to find out what might be in store for the highly promoted developer.

Not all that surprising. The 360 really hasn't caught on in Japan, despite Microsoft's best attempts. However, I am surprised they haven't decided to port to the PS3. Judging by the screenshots in magazine scans, it looks like they got quite far into the development process.
