A lot of people (yours truly included) consider Planescape: Torment one of—if not the—best RPGs on the PC. A mix of Baldur’s Gate and Final Fantasy, the well-written tale pretty much got me into RPGs years ago. Unfortunately, the game had quite a few bugs and missing features the developers wanted to put in, but didn’t have the time to do. That’s what modders are for!

Over at Spellhold Studios, Qwinn has released the new versions of his three mods: Planescape: Torment Fixpack, Unfinished Business, and Qwinn’s Tweaks.

The fixpack is a massive fixing of hundreds of bugs and typos in the game, ranging from minor issues to gigantic game-lessening ones, including “TNO's hit point gain and THACO and the entire morale system, which makes fear spells work as they should and Dak'kon's sword upgradable as it was meant to be.”

Unfinished business takes the nearly finished content that was released when the game was, finishes up a bunch of it, polishes it, and fixes the associated bugs. It restores dozens of banters, characters, quests, and items.

Lastly, Qwinn’s Tweaks adds several ease-of-use tweaks, and the much-anticipated banter accelerator, which will allow players to experience all 78 of the fully voiced banters that shipped with the game, rather than the 12 that—for some reason—were the only ones that showed up in the retail release.

Unfortunately, mods don’t work with the GameTap version of Planescape: Torment, so you’ll have to find a copy via other means. Since the game is selling for enormous amounts of money on eBay and Amazon, I’d suggest checking local electronics chains like Frys and Best Buy. From time to time I see a couple of copies sitting on the classic PC games shelves there.
