wukong2People are surprised when they hear that some new Dreamcast game has been released, even though the console has been practically dead for several years now. What would they do if they heard that a Taiwanese studio is actively releasing games for Sega's 16-bit wonder, the Genesis? Well, why don't you let us know in the comments section since that's exactly what the Super Fighter Team have been spending their time with?

The studio released the English translation of C&E, Inc's role playing game Beggar Prince in 2006, with a subsequent 2007 re-release, but their latest effort, Legend of Wukong, which they have once again translated -- but also heavily enhanced from Gamtec's original version -- was actually first launched in the beginning of this very month. These are not mere "Genesis style" adventures we are talking about here, they're proper games, stuffed in good old cartridges and shipped in shiny Genesis boxes, with full-color multi-page manuals to boot.

wukong3Legend of Wukong is a re-imagining of the Chinese classic story Journey to the West, which has been made even weirder thanks to the addition of time-travel machines and other such shenanigans. The visuals of the title are a little bit rougher than Beggar Prince's were, but the gameplay appears to be pure JRPG goodness, and a decent sense of humour seems evident throughout the available screenshots and video.

What are you waiting for? The $48  USD price tag -- which includes shipping fees for the US --  might be a little steep, but you should order yours now and put that Genesis to good use, for old times' sake if nothing else. It's just in time for Christmas too!

If I even knew where my Genesis was--or if I still even had it--I'd be tempted for nostalgia's sake.

They must sell enough copies to let them keep doing this at least, that says something about the numbers of fans one can get even within such an extremely niche space. You could almost understand it if they offered the rom of the game with each purchase, for play on emulators, but they don't, so it's quite baffling, and quite cool.

$48 is too expensive, even for a modern game. It's ludicrous when tagged to 16-bit fare like this. I hope they've got some *really* dedicated fans cuz that's all they're getting.
