Sony sure is doing everything in their power to make LBP take off like it should. First, the little SackBoys are the focal point of PlayStation’s Christmas cards, and now LBP is getting some holiday-themed items. Tis the season, after all.
Thursday, Sony will release the first level pack for LBP. (They’ve already been releasing costume packs.) Priced at $2.99, the level pack isn’t a new single player level for download, but is a collection of objects and costumes which can be used by creators to make their own holiday-themed stages.
The holiday level-pack is available until January 9, 2009, and when purchased players will receive:
• Two new Costumes – Christmas Tree headpiece and a Wrapped Sackboy. [PICTURED ABOVE]
• One new Create Material = Wrapping Paper (cardboard w/ giftwrap texture).
• Two new Objects = A Festive Sleigh and holiday themed light.
• Six new Decorations = A Festive Bauble, Bell, Wrapping Bow, Candy Cane, Card and Stocking.
• A ton of new Stickers = holiday themed of course, including a Red Nose Reindeer, Elves, Turkey images and many more.
Not everyone is going to want to spend money unlocking some holiday-themed goodies for creations, but I think it’s a good move by Sony. Sell holiday materials cheap, and let your awesome community come up with holiday-themed levels for you. Just don’t be a Scrooge and moderate things too heavily during the next couple of weeks, Sony. I for one would love to play a level inspired by How the Grinch Stole Christmas or A Christmas Story.
