Games may be the new penicillin, based on recent trends. Microsoft, working alongside non-profit group Companions in Courage, is installing Xbox 360 kiosks in three children's hospitals across the country, placing hundreds of Live-enabled consoles in playrooms for kids to enjoy while they are in for treatment.
The philosophy follows in the footsteps of Child's Play, clearly, but we don't mind -- charity is one of those things you're welcome to plagiarize. We should all be such imitators. Hospitalized children can use all the amusement they can get, and Microsoft's consoles will come pre-loaded with age-appropriate games, movies, and TV programs. In addition, the kids will even get their own private corner of Live, where they'll be able to play only with the other hospital-installed consoles, and not be subject to the frothing jerkholes that the rest of us have to endure. If you could get a select population of Live by breaking your leg, would you do it? Tough call.
The first installations are going up today at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian, the Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center of Seattle, and the Children's Hospital of Orange County. You can help bring a little Hexic to sick kids by making a donation to the program, here.
