This year's Retro Remakes Competition is now over. The winners have yet to be announced, but you can already download and play all 50 of the entries. The range of games is immense, with pretty much anything available, from a Tetris and Metroid hybrid (!), to a 3D Super Mario Kart clone, a homebrew Nintendo DS puzzle game, and remakes of games you might have never heard of, but should most definitely try. Here's a part of the official blurb.
Well, I guess that’s it. Another year and another competition come to a close. It’s been, as usual, remarkable to see the amount of time and effort that folks put into the competitions - and more so given that this year a fair portion of entrants took to the charity option with gusto, something we’re incredibly thankful for. That’s not to diminish the efforts of those who went for the more vanilla categories of course - you’re all utterly awesome and we love you all. But now, it’s time to hand over the fruits of the best part of 4 months labour over to the general public.

Nice post!
Unfortunately, if you - or any of your readers - try to download any of the remakes on the above link - it won't work.
The site was hacked recently.
In the meantime, I've gathered as many of the remake authors "off-site downloads" as possible, added a screenshot for each, and put them all on this page:

Hope that's helps.
So far.. I've only played a few of the games, but hope to get my teeth into more soon!

Oh I *know* you were 100% correct at the time of posting Alexander!
- in fact, the link worked for at least 3 weeks after your post.
I just thought I'd give you a heads up, if you hadn't heard the news.
PS: I hear that RR will have the results & all the downloads "back"
within about a week.
