While those of us who read English are still waiting to find out the fate of EGM, our Spanish speaking brethren found out last night that their wait was over; EGM en Español is no more.
Started back in 2002 as the second arm of the EGM print empire, the magazine had some good success at first, but its time has come to an end. Editorial director Adrián Carbajal writes on Press Start (think of Spanish 1UP) that the reason is largely due to the uncertainty of the original EGM’s future.
So even though we’re going at least to January with our EGM, readers of EGM en Español will have no chance to say goodbye, and will get no possible “adios!” issue; the last December issue with the Watchmen cover will be the final one printed.
With UGO reportedly wanting to buy 1UP but not EGM, and with EGM en Español shutting its doors, things don’t look good for the most popular mag in gaming. Hopefully, if our EGm follows suit next year we’ll at least get a kickass final issue celebrating its history with letters/columns from all of the editors and writers we loved over the years.
