Criterion games had some pretty awesome things to announce about the upcoming PC version of Burnout Paradise, the first series' installment to make it to the platform. Knowing how tough it is to satisfy this new audience, they decided against offering a mere demo. Instead, the full game will be available for download as a time-based trial version, easily unlocked via an in-game store.

Both in the press release and the podcast, Criterion members kept stressing that, other than the car selection being limited to the Hunter Mesquite, Hunter Cavalry and Nakamura SI-7, players can sample every other function of the full game, including all 120 event junctions, the free-roaming sandbox multiplayer, and basically everything else, time-based restrictions aside.

With these crystal-clear statements, there are still hints of more hidden limitations for the trial, as the press release mentions the ability to "play through the start of the full game for a limited period" and that "there’s a limit to just how much you can do" but even so, much more content than the average game's demo should be available, making the download worth your time.

The good news kept coming as  the arrival of a long-wanted feature was announced, in the form of an option to restart any given race or challenge. The timed trial will be the first to let you try it, but the feature will probably make its way into all versions of the game.

Criterion also said that the in-game store, included to enable unlocking the trial into the full game, will actually have more features they have yet to announce. I'm certain these will somehow involve the downloadable content previously mentioned by Sean, but let's keep the suspense going.
