According to an interesting story, run by BBC News, compulsive gamers are apparently not addicts. Hurray, for stating the obvious in a mainstream source of news!
These statements are apparently not to be taken lightly, as they're backed by Keith Bakker, the founder and head of The Smith & Jones Centre in Amsterdam, which has treated hundreds of gamers during its two year long life.
"The more we work with these kids the less I believe we can call this addiction. What many of these kids need is their parents and their school teachers - this is a social problem," said Bakker, and he will hopefully not fall on deaf ears.
Games have long been accused of causing addictions, bringing misfortune to anyone not strong enough to fight it, even ruining their whole lives. Such statements by an apparent expert show that, what you and I firmly believed already, is true as the problems lie elsewhere for most, if not all of the cases.
The whole article makes for a very interesting read, and should at least provide the necessary ammo for the next time your dad threatens to reduce your gaming hours, via an unpleasant meeting of a hammer and nails with your system of choice. Read it all here.
