Monsters & Critics learned via Xinhua News Agency that, on Sunday night, a fight erupted in a video-game center in the Nanping district of Chongqing city, resulting in the deaths of five people and leaving at least two individuals injured. What began as an argument between "several youths" and the manager of the Milky Way Express games center quickly escalated into a brawl "involving at least 20 people, some armed with knives and batons."
Chongqing police have not yet released the names of those killed, as they continue their investigation into the incident. Today, Chongqing police "ordered public security inspections of all internet bars and video-game centres after the incident."

In reference to the image, is that a playchoice-10 next to a DDR machine?! It's a little awesome to see one of those things still in use.
I'm not too surprised to hear about the brawl though, reportedly there have been a few game-related murders and killings in Korea and China before - some of those guys take their hobby very seriously.

@Seaniccus You have a fantastic eye for detail!
I think people take their hobbies very seriously all over. I have personally seen someone chuck an xbox controller at another person's head after a particularly poor showing at NBA Live. (I promise it wasn't me.)
Also, one time at a competitive ballroom dance thing, a lady stepped on my foot with her high heel, breaking and puncturing my foot almost completely through. I still have a pretty significant scar there 12 years later. My friend Chris says it looks like my foot had a baby. So, yes, people do take their hobbies very seriously.

@Marie,
Ouch! Did she do that on purpose? Did she even care when she found blood on her heel? That's pretty messed up.
Yeah, anything competitive often ads a degree of danger, people take loss in competition a little too personally sometimes.
And speaking of hobbies, retro gaming is one of mine. I would love to have a playchoice-10 and a collection of games for it.
