Want to Finish Tomb Raider Underworld on the Wii? Too bad.

News

Eidos just can’t catch a break, man. First they go and make review scandals a yearly event, and now they’ve gone and released Tomb Raider Underworld on the Wii with a major, haha-you-can’t-beat-this-game bug.

After the game came out, multiple people have posted on Eidos’ forums that they can’t get beyond a certain point in Lara’s new adventure. At the end of the Coastal Thailand area, right after the cinematic where Lara shows the gauntlet running out of power, players are supposed to navigate their way up two ledges, pull a lever, and move on to the next room. Only … plenty of players have no lever when they try. Somehow, a choice they made at one point or another in the game caused it to vanish. Without the lever, there’s no continuing (or beating) the game. For some, this glitch has shown up in the course of a review play through, preventing an actual review. (For others, I presume it didn’t.)

Either way, this is going to make the Wikipedia entry for Tomb Raider: Underworld much more interesting to read in the future. Now, I’d like to open up a bet on which of Eidos’ 2009 games will be the center of controversy next year.
