Today, Square Enix announced that three brand-new expansion "scenarios" are currently in development for Final Fantasy XI. The first expansion chapter, A Crystalline Prophecy – Ode of Life Bestowing, is scheduled for release sometime in the spring of 2009, with the other two chapters following over the course of the year. All three expansions should retail for about 10 dollars, are expected to take "one to two months to complete," and will only be available for download via PlayOnline. The expansions will see the creative input of Masato Kato, "who oversaw the original plot conception of Final Fantasy XI from initial release up through the Rise of the Zilart expansion."
Whereas previous expansion packs have focused on adding new areas and locations, the three new expansions "will deepen the storylines running through pre-existing areas by ushering in all-new plots and intrigues."
