According to a report over at Siliconera, Sonic Unleashed may not make its release window this month. Citing quality concerns, Sega of Japan has announced that while the Wii version will still arrive December 18th, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be delayed until Spring 2009.
Sega of America PR was not immediately available for comment, but likely for good reason -- if the game is now subject to a worldwide delay, there will be tremendous pressure on the marketing teams to re-educate consumers... and if for some reason Sega decides to ship an inferior version of the game to customers outside of Japan, well, you'd better bet there will be some explaining to do.
Though we believe Sega of America has never provided a definite release date for Sonic Unleashed beyond "November," U.S. retailers including GameStop, Amazon, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Toys R' Us uniformly show November 24th and December 12th as the release dates for Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Sonic Unleashed respectively. The European Sega PressVault website shows a November release for all versions of the game, and Kotaku confirms similar dates for Australia.
We were tentatively impressed by Sonic Unleashed back at E3 2008; you can read our preview right here.
