The Wanted video game has been a giant blip on my radar screen for three reasons. First, I've been hankering for a good slow-motion bullet ballet for some time, and Max Payne 3 is nowhere to be found. Second, with movie studio Universal publishing the game themselves, Wanted promises to be one movie adaptation that doesn't suck. And of course, third, I'm looking forward to seeing the latest CG rendition of Angelina Jolie.
In these very first screenshots for the new Wanted game (which has just been officially subtitled Weapons of Fate), there's no Angelina Jolie to found, but there is one more reason to be intrigued by the title -- in trying to translate the movie's other star, James McAvoy, to the interactive medium, the game's developers have stumbled right into that uncanny valley you've all heard so much about.
Amusingly enough, in August executive producer Pete Wanat asked the rhetorical question "Why hide [star James McAvoy] behind a first-person view?"
In the media alert that accompanied these screenshots, a Universal representative confirms that Wanted: Weapons of Fate is set after the events of the movie; the game "continues the epic journey of hero Wesley Gibson, who must go toe-to-toe with the sophisticated but deadly French chapter of "'The Fraternity.'"
"Armed with iconic moves from rigorous assassin training, including 'Curving Bullets' and 'Bullet Explosion,' as well an arsenal of powerful, high-tech weapons, players will explore Wesley’s quest to becoming an unmatched uberassassin in fast-paced, action-packed combat against the world’s most notorious killers."
