March Metal Gear Solid Madness

Tue, Mar 18, 2008

News

Someone at Konami must really like the 18th of March, because today we have more Metal Gear Solid news than you can shake a... well, let's not go there. For starts, this week's Famitsu not only details exactly how far Japanese gamers are getting exploited for their copies of the PS3's long-awaited killer app, but also has a picture of Sony's latest fanboy bait -- the Metal Gear Solid 4 Special Edition PS3. Hi-res scan at Hatamaki, number conversion by Kotaku, plunging dollar-yen exchange rate courtesy of GOP:

According to this scan from Japanese magazine Famitsu, the regular version of Metal Gear Solid 4 will retail for ¥8,800 (US $91), the Special Edition will go for ¥9,800 ($101) and the bundle will go for ¥51,800 ($534). And the color of the PS3 console in that special edition MGS4 bundle? That would be "steel." Fitting.

Here's hoping that $534 buys some backwards compatibililty and a decently sized hard drive along with that spiffy paint job.

Apparently that very same magazine also reveals that Japan may see the original Metal Gear Solid on PlayStation Network (and PSP) as early as March 31st. Gemaga has a blurry scan and this report:

That’s a small bit of a scan of a page from the latest Famitsu and guess what it says? This spring the Japanese Playstation Network is getting Metal Gear Solid 1 for the PSP/PS3. Woop woop! I think I’d rather Have MGS4 though but hey it’s something to tide all us fans over until the big daddy comes out this Summer.

But even if you now feel trapped in the land of the free and the home of the brave (la-li-lu-le-lo) Konami still has you covered, since the Metal Gear Solid Essential Collection ships today:
