Madden fans, rejoice! Have you ever wanted to play as your fantasy football roster in Madden NFL, but were too sickeningly lazy to take advantage of the Create-a-Team features which have existed for years? EA's got you covered. New this year for EA SPORTS Fantasy Football, a press release has promised that armchair franchise owners will be able to link up their copies of Madden NFL 09 with their fantasy teams on the EA Fantasy Football website, allowing them to import their teams into the console game. Fantasy fans will now get to play with their draft picks without having to assemble the teams twice.
To be fair, this is actually a nice idea; fantasy football devotees are getting a nice little bonus feature which will let them take their league into another arena of competition (assuming everyone in their league plays Madden on the same flavor of console), and it appears to be free. For some extra cash, though, you can take your entire fantasy league onto your console -- EA is also releasing EA SPORTS Fantasy Football Live Draft Tracker, a downloadable standalone for 360 and PS3, which will go above and beyond the standard web application in visuals, features, interactivity, and cost. From there, you can also download EA SPORTS Fantasy Football Live Score Tracker, which has "score" instead of "draft" in it. Er, which will track your fantasy league with all manner of bells and whistles.
All right, maybe I'm just cynically imagining that EA will sign an exclusivity deal and then sue your office for holding a pen-and-paper fantasy league. But, for those of you who are READY FOR SOME (fantasy) FOOTBALL, this will probably be reasonably fun. Live Draft Tracker is slated to be available on Live and PSN on July 31st. Get your leagues together now.
