As of January, Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) has sold 50 million units worldwide.

First launched in Japan in 2004 (with subsequent release in North America in 2005), the PSP was the first handheld to implement an optical Universal Media Disc (UMD) format. There are currently over 2,000 titles available on UMD worldwide, and an additional 500 titles available via the PlayStation Network.

According to Japanese trade magazine Enterbrain, for several months of 2008, PSP sales outpaced those of current handheld champion, the Nintendo DS, which has sold a total of 96.2 million units worldwide since its 2004 release.

I love my PSP. It gets knocked but there are some really good games on it that look way better than what the DS can put out.

@Scott I need to play mine more. I just never think about playing handhelds since I'm always at home....
