Microsoft confirmed today that ACES Studio, responsible for the "Microsoft Flight Simulator" series, has been closed as part of the company's global restructuring. It is currently uncertain whether "Flight Simulator" or ACES' other franchise, "Microsoft Train Simulator," will continue, but a Microsoft spokesperson said that the company was "committed" to the former.

In a statement Friday, Microsoft spokeswoman Kelda Rericha said:

I can confirm the closure of Aces Studio. Following our annual strategy-review process, IEB is making adjustments within our business to align our people against our highest priorities, and the closure of Aces Studio is one of those changes.

We are committed to the Flight Simulator franchise which has proven to be a successful PC based game for the last 27 years. You should expect us to continue to invest in enabling great LIVE experiences on Windows, including flying games, but we have nothing specific to announce at this time.

Microsoft announced Thursday that they would be cutting 5,000 jobs across the organization over the next 18 months, 1,400 of which are effective immediately.
