Jeff Brown, VP of Corporate Communications for Electronic Arts, today denied rumors that "Skate 2" and "Need for Speed" developer EA Black Box had cut upwards of 200 staff from the Canadian studio. "That's irresponsible of them to announce that," he said, referring to a report published at Gamasutra this morning. "The number is incorrect."

Though EA's Colin Macrae told The Vancouver Sun that there had been "significant" layoffs at Black Box, Brown characterized the cuts as part and parcel of the global 10% restructuring plan EA announced in December, and emphasized that the workforce reduction would impact all EA studios, not just the ones based in Canada.
