Ubisoft announced today that "Assassin's Creed," "Red Steel," "Ghost Recon" and "Splinter Cell" will all receive sequels by the end of the company's 2009-2010 fiscal year, while "I Am Alive" has been delayed.
In its third-quarter earnings call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also discussed the fate of franchises "Shawn White Snowboarding" and "EndWar," and revealed the developers who will helm another new Ubisoft project, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
Hit the jump for the highlights.
- "Assassin's Creed 2," "Splinter Cell: Conviction" and a new "Ghost Recon" title are all confirmed and currently slated to appear by March 2010.
- "I Am Alive" has been delayed to the 2009-2010 fiscal year, despite reports this morning that it would arrive this March. Ubisoft attributes the delay to quality concerns, and say the game needs more development time.
- Asked about plans for the Wii, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot blurted out "We have lots of products coming for the Wii next year. We have 'Red Steel'" before being verbally silenced by CFO Alain Martinez, who told the CEO to "shut up" before apologizing. Guillemot himself apologized a half-minute later, saying, "I mentioned a game I was not supposed to mention." When contacted for comment, Ubisoft said, "We have nothing further to add to Yves' comments."
- "Far Cry 2" sold 2.9 million copies, while "Rayman: Ravving Rabbids TV Party" pulled 1.5 million. "Prince of Persia" sold 2.2 million since its December release, which Ubisoft considers "a slow take-off."
- With 2.3 million sales, Ubisoft now considers "Shaun White Snowboarding" a "long-term franchise," and may branch out to develop other sports games as well.
- Ubisoft did not reveal numbers for "Tom Clancy's EndWar," but suggested that we may not see any more titles in the series. "We did not succeed in creating a franchise in the RTS genre with EndWar," Guillemot said. According to the CEO, the company had expected review scores in the 90s, and suggested that the game's casual nature "disappointed traditional RTS gamers" while simultaneously failing to find them a mainstream audience.
- Guillemot said that Ubisoft's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" will come from the same development team that worked on the last "Super Smash Bros."
- James Cameron's "Avatar," currently under development at Ubisoft Montreal and positioned by the company as one of the biggest titles of next year, will appear on Wii, PS3 and PC in addition to Xbox 360.
- Ubisoft representatives have confirmed that "Tom Clancy's HAWX," an arcade-y combat flight simulator, will arrive March 2009.
