"The Wheel of Time" series of books is quite popular. First hitting the fantasy book scene in 1990, Robert Jordan's epic series (which will finish with a posthumous release of the final 12th chapter this fall) is a big franchise, selling 44 million copies worldwide. Unlike many properties, though, "The Wheel of Time" never got a big movie, TV, or game deal until fairly recently when its hype increased even more upon Robert Jordan's death. Last summer, Red Eagle Entertainment finally snagged the rights for "Wheel of Time" movies, and now it appears that they're also going to be making games.

Partnering with Red Eagle Games, Electronic Arts has officially announced that they will be bringing games set in Jordan's "Wheel of Time" world to all platforms, including console, handheld, PC, and mobile.

"EA Partners is excited to team up with Red Eagle as their global distribution partner for games based on 'The Wheel of Time' series," said David DeMartini, senior vice president and general manager of EA Partners. 'The Wheel of Time' series has a massive worldwide following and we’re excited to help give Red Eagle Games' interactive products a blockbuster launch on the global stage."

The games will include an MMORPG that "...encompasses the themes and world of the books." No word yet on what genre the games will fall under, or whether they'll be directly tied to the films or their own separate entities.
